What Is Prakriti?
Why Is Every Person Different?
The idea that “one approach works for everyone” does not fully reflect the traditional Ayurvedic philosophy. Ayurveda uses the concept of Prakriti to understand individual differences.
Prakriti can broadly be understood as an individual's natural constitution. Traditional Ayurvedic frameworks consider physical characteristics, tendencies and certain physiological patterns when discussing Prakriti.
Why Is Prakriti Important?
Two people may respond differently to the same food or lifestyle. Ayurveda takes such individual differences into consideration as part of its personalised approach.
According to traditional Ayurvedic understanding, Prakriti is described through different combinations of Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Prakriti and Lifestyle
From an Ayurvedic perspective, becoming aware of your body and its tendencies can contribute to greater health awareness. Observing how your body responds to food, sleep, routine, activity and environment can be a useful part of understanding yourself.
However, making a definitive assessment of your Prakriti solely through an online quiz or general description is not appropriate. A detailed Ayurvedic assessment is better understood with the guidance of a qualified practitioner.
Understanding yourself can be the first step towards a more mindful wellness journey.
